On our A game, 'A' spot at Southerns.

Time to make plans for holidays in Lethbridge! After the win on the weekend, Team Adams will be heading to the Alberta Junior Provincial Championship from December 27th-31st.

What a fantastic weekend we had! The beautiful Crownest pass played host to this year's Junior Southern Playdowns. We took on the drive Thursday afternoon, and after a few wrong turns, we arrived for a late practice.

Our opening game was Friday morning against Team Ector. We got off to a strong start and kept it going from there. Our knowledge of the ice from the night previous was a considerable factor in bringing home a win.

A quick turnaround put us against Team Taylor in the quarterfinals. This game was Taylor’s first of the event as they received the bye, but they were not behind on the ice after having practised the night before as well. It was a slow start with a blank coming in the first, but in the second a well-executed end was rewarded with a steal of two. Another steal the following end swung the momentum our way. We never looked back from there taking the game 7-1.

In the evening draw, we played Team Libbus. Libbus had just come off a win against Kurina, so we went in prepared. We had a couple misses in the first end which lead to a force, but that did not deter us; a well-executed steal of two in the second frame brought confidence going forwards. We cruised to an 8-2 win.

We were able to get some sleep that night before facing Zeidell in the final the following morning. Zeidell was an underdog in the semis but shot well to take the win over Young, so we knew they were here to play. A couple of misses led to a force in the first end, but we tightened up the following end laying down a steal of two. Another steal of two in the next frame locked down our lead. It was all defence from there on out (Except a flash leading to the only steal against of the weekend… whoops). We ultimately locked down the SACA ‘A’ spot with a double for a single in the ninth.

It was exciting! We got off the ice, filled out some paperwork and took pictures with our new set of boots before having a celebratory lunch with our biggest fans, our parents. After that, we took on the trip home (With a stop in Nanton for candy of course).

Huge thanks to all the Crowsnest Curling Club and all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event amazing! Moreover, thank you to our sponsors for their support up to this point, we could not have done it without them!

Congratulations to all the other teams that qualified this weekend as well. See you all in LA!
