Wow, what a weekend for Team Adams! After our less than desirable showing last weekend at the Balmoral, our time in Lethbridge was a great opportunity for a bounce-back, and we tried to make the most of it. We also got our new team jackets (thank you Dynasty), and were thrilled to be able to show them off!
Starting things off on Friday night (which was Josh’s birthday, I might add), we came up against Team Skrlik. Out of the gates, we seemed to find our stride, and by the sixth end of that first game, I think I made more shots than all of last weekend combined (Seriously, that prediction isn’t far off. Last weekend was embarrassing for me). With a strong start, we managed to take the lead and never look back, although it was certainly a good game.
Saturday morning, we were well rested and ready for our game against Team Vincent. This game, we also read the ice well early, and were able to come up with some key shots that put us in control. Playing a great finesse team, we knew we would have to keep it up, and we did exactly that, eventually taking the “W”. This left us with a deciding game within our pool, as we would need to win to advance to the “A” bracket.
Against Team Zeidell, the ice started of quite a bit different from what we had been used to, and it took us a bit of time to find our sweet spot once again. After not too long, however, we were able to do exactly that. A few good ends and the right shots at the right times put us ahead, allowing us to finish top of our pool and advance to the “A” event semifinals Sunday morning.
Between our Saturday night draw and our morning draw, we were able to take on the great Hawaiian-themed banquet the organizing committee put on for the curlers, and we were able to socialize with some of our best friends and loved ones. A Tims run or two was also worked into the schedule.
Sunday morning, we woke up and got to the club ready to play. In our semifinal game against a strong Russian Girls team, it took us a little while to get our weights down. As soon as we did, however, we were able to work our way into a small lead, and maintained that over the next ends to move onto the final!
This is where I might mention that we felt pretty good about our bounce back from a rough previous weekend.
Moving into the final, we knew we had a tough game ahead. Unfortunately, we weren’t exactly as hot as we would have liked, meaning that we would allow team Van Amsterdam an early lead. Despite our best efforts to get back into the game, a three-ball for the wrong colour in six essentially sealed off our weekend. This would not ruin our weekend, however, as we are able to confidently look back at the improvements we made over Balmoral, but still realize where we can make some changes.
Team Adams wishes to sincerely thank the Lethbridge Curling Club and their organizers for putting on a great event this weekend! Of course, as always, we could not have seen the success that we did without our sponsors, so a big thanks goes out to them for keeping us in the running.
We’ll update again soon!
